What are hashtags on Twitter?

6 12 2008

Hashtags #keyword is a way of grouping tweets. It was established or came to light during the san diego bush fires twitter user nateritter used the tag #sandiegofires to correlate his tweets into some sort of channel. Channels are a feature that twitter is missing, hopefully they will develop them soon or a variation.

So when you are talking about an event or a specific subject stick a # in front of the keyword. This makes it searchable and if you follow hashtags on twitter the tweet with the # will be indexed see hashtags.org for more information.
